In the 2018-19 Nebraska Girls' State Basketball Tournament the #1 Mitchell Lady Tigers just got beat by the #5 Lincoln Christian Lady Crusaders 44-42 in Class C-1.

For the second straight season, Lincoln Christian gave Mitchell their second loss of the season. Mitchell has a 25-2 record.

Fortunately for Mitchell, they have a chance to end the season with a win. They will play the Wahoo Lady Warriors in the consolation game on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Central Time at Lincoln Southeast High School.

In the 2017-18 season, Mitchell went 27-2 and lost to Lincoln Christian in the consolation round of the State Tournament 56-34. Mitchell lost 43-26 to eventual Class C-1 champion Columbus Scotus in the second round.

Mitchell went 23-2 in the 2016-17 season and went home after losing to Ord 54-35 in the first round of the state tournament.

Lincoln Christian has handed Mitchell a loss in three of the last four State Tournaments. In the 2015-16 season, the Crusaders sent the Tigers home in the round one 67-27. Mitchell went 20-7 that year.

Lincoln Christian has finished 2nd, 1st and 3rd at the State Tournament the past three years.

The Crusaders lost to Kearney Catholic for a state title three years ago 39-37. Lincoln Christian finished 25-2.

Then, two years ago they switched roles with Lincoln Christian winning 45-41. The state champs finished 28-2.

Last year, Wahoo Bishop Neumann, the team who Lincoln Christian lost to in the semifinals, won 53-41. The Crusaders finished the season 22-7. Wahoo Bishop Neumann was then defeated in the state title game by Columbus Scotus 40-37 in overtime.

Lincoln Christian (19-8) will play the winner of Wahoo Bishop Neumann Lady Cavaliers at 9:00 a.m. Central Time on Saturday.

So Lincoln Christian will have a chance to avenge last year's state tournament loss to Wahoo Bishop Neumann.

Mitchell lost by 40 points three years ago to Lincoln Christian in the State Tournament. Three years later they only lost by two.

The Tigers have nothing to be ashamed of.

They cut down the number of points they lost by in their heartbreaking, state championship-ending losses the last four years from forty to two.

This is a happy ending.

Just not the way they would have really wanted it to end though: With a state championship.

One of Mitchell's top performers this season, Keyana Wilfred, a senior, their 6'3" center, is headed to the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) on a Division 1 basketball scholarship according to Bob Jensen of Huskerlandpreps.com.

My only question is, what is going to be her actual uniform number at UNLV? She has posed in photos in UNLV gear on her personal Twitter in #3 and #23. Perhaps she may wear #15 (her uniform number with Mitchell this season) or another uniform number instead?
