Boys' BB: Ogallala defeats Broken Bow and will play Gothenburg in the next round of the SWC Tournament

The Ogallala Indians High School Boys' Varsity basketball team defeated the Broken Bow Indians 78 to 51 in the first round of the Southwest Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the Steve Morgan Court in the Prairie View Gymnasium in Ogallala, Nebraska, on January 28th, 2025!
Broken Bow was ranked as the 8th seed for the Tournament while Ogallala was ranked as the #1 overall seed for the Tournament.
Broken Bow's Braxtton Johnson scored 13 points and he made three free throws. The rest of his points were two-point shots.
Edan Cain was Ogallala's top scorer with 22 points. He made four three-pointers and the rest of his points were two-pointers!
Ogallala led 19 to 7 after the first quarter.
Broken Bow then trailed 41 to 19 at halftime.
Ogallala led 65 to 32 after three quarters.
Broken Bow lost by a final score of 78 to 51. Ogallala scored just 13 points in the fourth quarter while Broken Bow scored 19.
Broken Bow's Dominic Nowak and Zachary Jackson each scored 10 points, including two three-pointers each.
Kyan Tobey made three three-pointers and scored nine points.
Jesus Flores made two two-point baskets and scored four points.
Ayden Clark made a free throw and scored three total points.
Jack White scored made a two-point shot.
Ogallala's Sawyer Smith scored 18 points. He has scored at least 15 points in each of his last seven Varsity basketball games.
Smith made two free throws and the rest of his made shots were two-pointers.
Lincoln Gillen scored 16 points, including two three-pointers.
Cy Lowery scored eight points, including two dunks I believe. He made four two-point shots. Sawyer Smith threw the ball up off the very bottom part of the backboard and Lowery dunked the basketball for one of Lowery's dunks.
Tanner DeCastro scored six points on three two-pointers.
Rylan Gilmore scored five points, including a three-point shot.
Wiley Krab made a two-point shot.
Blake Robb made a free throw and scored one point total.
Broken Bow is now 5-11 on the season while Ogallala is now 16-0 on the season.
According to the Nebraska School Activities Association (nsaahome.org), Broken Bow is ranked 45th in Class C-1 while Ogallala is currently ranked second in Class C-1 at 2:55 p.m. Mountain Time on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025.
It appears Ogallala will be ranked among the top two teams in Class C-1 for the rest of the season as long as both Ogallala and current #1 Lincoln Lutheran keep winning.
Omaha Concordia is ranked third currently in Class C-1.
According to Maxpreps.com, Ogallala's head coach Andy Gillen who is in his seventh season as Ogallala's head coach has now won 157 games and has lost just 22 games with the Ogallala High School Boys' Varsity basketball program.
The Ogallala Indians have won the Southwest Conference Tournament every single year Andy Gillen has been the head coach of Ogallala High School Varsity Boys' basketball.

#8 Broken Bow will play the #7 Minden Whippets on Thursday, January 30th in Gothenburg. Minden (7-9) is ranked 43rd in Class C-1 according to nsaahome.org.
#1 Ogallala will play #5 Gothenburg Swedes in the semifinal round of the Southwest Conference Tournament on Friday, January 31st, in Kearney, at 3:30 p.m. Central Time. Gothenburg (9-6) is ranked 22nd in Class C-1 according to nsaahome.org.
#3 Cozad will play #2 Holdrege in Kearney as well on Friday, January 31st, at 5:00 p.m. Central Time.
The winner of Gothenburg-Ogallala and Cozad-Holdrege will take place on Saturday, February 1st, in Kearney at 4:30 p.m. Central Time for the Southwest Conference Tournament championship.
The third-place game will be earlier in the day in Kearney on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Central Time.
After the Southwest Conference Tournament, Broken Bow's next away game is at Lexington on Tuesday, February 4th.
Ogallala's next home game will be on Friday, February 7th against the McCook Bison.
Broken Bow's next home game is actually against the Ogallala Indians on Saturday, February 8th.
Broken Bow's next away game after that will be at Ord on Tuesday, February 11th.
Ogallala's next home game after that will be on Thursday, February 13th against Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves.
