Boys' BB: Ogallala defeats Maywood-Hayes Center in Boys' Varsity Basketball

The Ogallala Indians defeated the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves 78 to 38 at the Steve Morgan Court in the Prairie View Gymnasium in Ogallala, Nebraska, on Thursday night, February 13th, 2025.
Kade Broz led the scoring for the visitors from Maywood-Hayes Center with 11 points.
He made two three-pointers, a free throw, and was rewarded two points from goaltending by Ogallala's Cy Lowery.
Ogallala's Sawyer Smith scored 25 points. He made three three-pointers and six free throws, in addition to all of his two-point makes.
Maywood-Hayes Center led 12 to 11 with 3:26 left in the first quarter.
Ogallala led 19 to 13 after the first quarter.
Ogallala then picked up the intensity in all fazes of the game and had a big second quarter.
The Indians led 27 to 15 with 6:14 left to go in the 2nd quarter.
Ogallala then led by at least 15 with 5:00 minutes to go in the second quarter.
Maywood-Hayes Center trailed 51 to 24 at halftime after two quarters of play.
Ogallala then led 68 to 29 after three quarters and limited Maywood-Hayes Center to just five points in the 3rd quarter.
Ogallala won 78 to 38 and the game ended oddly enough with Oliver Anders making one of two free throws for the Wolves.
Jaxon Anders scored eight points for Maywood-Hayes Center. He made two three-pointers.
Oliver Anders scored seven points including three free throws.
Kody Schwenk made two threes.
Charlie Callis, Ryan Werkmeister and Cooper Soundy each made a two-point basket.
For Ogallala, Lincoln Gillen was the second-best scorer for the Indians with 16 points.
He made four three-pointers and the rest of his makes were two-point baskets.
Rylan Gilmore scored nine points, made a three-pointer and two free throws.
Edan Cain made four two-pointers for a total of eight points.
Tanner DeCastro scored six points and three two-point baskets.
Peyton Rapp, a senior, and Ogallala's student manager for Ogallala High School Boys' basketball scored six points total, making a three-pointer as the very first points of the game and he also hit another three-pointer near the end of the game.
Zach Musgrove made a three-pointer.
Cy Lowery scored three-points including making a free throw.
Wiley Krab made a two-point shot.
Maywood-Hayes Center is now 14-8 while Ogallala is now 20-1.
The Wolves play at Wauneta-Palisade today (Friday, February 14th) and then they have a home game against Perkins County on February 21st.
Maywood-Hayes Center was ranked 19th in Class D-1 recently according to nsaahome.org.
Ogallala hosts Gering on Tuesday, February 18th, and Gothenburg on Friday, February 21st, before the subdistrict tournament begins.
Ogallala was ranked first before Thursday's game in Class C-1 according to nsaahome.org.
Maywood-Hayes Center is now ranked 22nd in Class D-1 on Friday, February 14th, 2025, at 4:44 p.m. Mountain Time while Ogallala actually dropped one slot and is ranked 2nd in Class C-1 according to nsaahome.org.
The Ogallala Indians defeated the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves in Boys' High School Junior Varsity basketball at the Ogallala Auditorium 51 to 19 on Thursday afternoon.
Sawyer Dibbern scored six points for Maywood-Hayes Center and made two free throws.
Ogallala's Drew Patin scored 17 points and Cy Lowery scored 16 points.
Patin made a three-pointer and two free throws.
Lowery made two three-pointers and two dunks, including his three additional two-point makes.
Ogallala's Anthony Perrin scored seven points, including a three-point basket and two free throws.
Perrin fouled out, but Maywood-Hayes Center let him stay in the game for whatever reason and the referees were OK with it.
Zach Musgrove made two three-point baskets and scored six points for Ogallala.
