Boys' HS Wrestling: Sidney wins two while McCook wins one in Ogallala

The Sidney Red Raiders won each of their two dual matches against the McCook Bison and the Ogallala Indians in Boys' High School wrestling at the Prairie View Gymnasium at the Steve Morgan Court in Ogallala on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025!


Sidney won against McCook 43 to 35 and then Sidney won against Ogallala 48 to 32.

McCook defeated Ogallala in one dual match 51 to 18.


McCook and Ogallala wrested against each other first on Thursday. The Girls' wrestled first, followed by the Boys'. Then, McCook wrestled against Sidney with Girls' going first followed by Boys', and finally Sidney wrestled against Ogallala, Girls' first followed by Boys'.


McCook had seven of their nine wins against Ogallala happen because of a pin! Only one win was because of an open/forfeit by Ogallala and the other was a decision.


On the other hand, Ogallala had three wins against McCook with two of those by pin and the other win by an open/forfeit by McCook.


McCook had six wins against Sidney with five of them being pins! The other win by McCook was a Technical Fall.


On the other hand, Sidney won eight matches against McCook with just two of those being pins! Sidney had four opens/forfeits by McCook which helped them defeat McCook in a close match! Sidney also won one decision and one major decision!


Five McCook wrestlers got pins each against both their Ogallala and Sidney opponents.


Those wrestlers are Wyatt Benes, Tristan Campbell, Trenton Raile, Tate Schafer and Vince Mashek.


Tristan Campbell came into the wrestling meet in Ogallala still undefeated for the entire regular season, and he left Ogallala still undefeated! Campbell pinned his Ogallala opponent in 46 seconds.


Unfortunately for Campbell, he didn't have the fastest pin of the day as his teammate Wyatt Benes had a pin of a Sidney wrestler in 26 seconds and Sidney's Cayson Boltjes had a pin of a McCook wrestler in 45 seconds.


John White also won both of his matches for McCook, but they weren't pins, as it was a decision against Ogallala and a Technical Fall win against Sidney.


McCook's Tucker Ebert didn't actually have to wrestle in Ogallala as he won both of his matches against Ogallala and Sidney by open/forfeit.


McCook's Tyce Hammerlun won by decision against Ogallala while McCook's Gabe Roberts won by pin against Ogallala. Those two guys went 1-1 on Thursday.


Kaine Hill was the only Sidney wrestler to get pins against both of his opponents.


Sidney's Patrick McCartney also won both of his matches with a pin against Ogallala and a major decision against Sidney.


Ben Gillham of Sidney won by pin against Ogallala and an open/forfeit against McCook.


Cayson Boltjes of Sidney won via an open/forfeit against Ogallala and a pin against McCook.


Sidney's Zech Roggasch and Joseph Johnson simply won both of their matches by showing up and didn't actually have to wrestle because of the open/forfeit rule.


Sidney's Hayden Sittner and Owen Gillham won by pins against Ogallala while Romain Ryder won by pin against McCook. Those three guys went 1-1 on Thursday.


Ogallala's Amaythian Clark and Zaiden Peterson won both of their matches.


Clark won both of his matches against McCook and Sidney by pin, while Peterson won by pin against McCook and decision against Sidney.


Ogallala's Kaeden Lowney won by open/forfeit against McCook in the only head-to-head matchup he attempted to participate in.


Four other Ogallala wrestlers won against Sidney with David Sexson, Richard Handy and Rock Rezac getting pins. Diego Juarez won by technical fall. Those four wrestlers had a won-lost record of 1-1 on Thursday.


The next wrestling meet in Ogallala will be on Monday, January 6th, 2025, in which Bridgeport will face Ogallala for both High School Girls' and Boys'.
