GBB: McCook defeats Ogallala in Girls' Varsity Basketball

The McCook Bison High School Girls' Varsity basketball team defeated the Ogallala Indians 64 to 56 on Friday night, February 7th, 2025, at the Steve Morgan Court in the Prairie View Gymnasium in Ogallala, Nebraska.


McCook was able to avenge a 39 to 37 loss to Ogallala for third place in the Southwest Conference Tournament on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, in which they would have won if probably the McCook coach didn't call timeout right before the final whistle as one of their basketball players allegedly made a longer than half court shot, but the basket didn't count because of the timeout.


One of Ogallala's top scorers Shaydyn Rasby didn't play in Friday night's game for whatever reason.


McCook's Cali Crawford led all scorers for both teams with 17 points. Crawford made two threes and three free throws.


Ogallala's Laney Caskey, Aniston O'Neil and Addison Slama each scored 12 points.


O'Neil and Slama each made two three-pointers. Caskey and Slama each made two free throws.


McCook led Ogallala 7 to 4 early in the first quarter.


Ogallala led 16 to 15 after one quarter.


Ogallala led 23 to 22 with 3:54 left in the second quarter.


McCook led at halftime 32 to 24.


McCook led 38 to 31 with 4 minutes left in the third quarter and 41 to 34 with 1:49 left in the third.


McCook led 43 to 37 after three quarters.


Ogallala trailed by two, 45 to 43 with 7:07 left in the 4th quarter.


McCook led 55 to 53 with 3:15 left in the 4th.


Ogallala trailed 61 to 56 with 39.8 seconds left in the 4th quarter.


McCook made a three and won 64 to 36.


McCook and Ogallala both now have 13 wins and 7 losses on the season.


McCook is ranked 13th in Class B according to the NSAA with 41.6000 points as of this story being written on Saturday, February 8th, 2025, at 12:28 p.m. Mountain Time.


Ogallala is ranked 14th in Class C-1 according to the NSAA with 42.9500 as of very early Saturday afternoon February 8th, 2025, as well!


McCook's Jaylea Walgren scored 14 points (12 points for sure). Walgren made four threes.


Paige Bortner scored 11 points including two three-pointers and two free throw makes.


Brooklyn Gillen scored eight points including two three-pointers.


Malia Hilker scored seven points. She made two threes and one free throw.


Alice Weimer scored five points, including make a three.


Lacyn Keller made a two-point basket.


Lilley Gans scored zero points, but she may have scored two points if you take two points away from Jaylea Walgren.


For Ogallala, Hayden Shaw totaled 11 points including making one three-pointer and four free throws.


Sadie Flansburg scored three free throws and totaled seven points.


Addison Powell made a two-pointer.


Alex Ervin made a free throw for one point total.


McCook hosts Alliance today (Saturday) while Ogallala will travel to Broken Bow to take on their same nickname opponent, the Broken Bow Indians.


The Ogallala Girls' host Maywood-Hayes Center for their regular season home finale on Thursday, February 13th, 2025.
