The Ogallala Indians High School Girls' Varsity basketball team defeated the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves 54 to 42 on Thursday night at the Steve Morgan Court in the Prairie View Gymnasium in Ogallala, Nebraska, on February 13th, 2025.

Maywood-Hayes Center didn't score a single point in the third quarter which was probably the biggest story of the game.

Caylie Softley led all scorers with 16 points for Maywood-Hayes Center.

Softley made two threes and the rest of her points were two point shots. She scored nine points in the first half.

Ogallala's Shaydyn Rasby scored 14 points. All of her points were two-pointers.

Maywood-Hayes Center led very early in the game, but then Ogallala took an 8-6 lead with 3:48 left in the first quarter.

The Indians then led 14 to 12 after one quarter.

Maywood-Hayes Center only trailed by three at halftime 28 to 25.

Ogallala then led 35 to 25 with 5:39 left in the 3rd quarter and 37 to 25 with 3:36 left in the third.

The Indians scored 18 points in the third quarter and led 46 to 25 after three quarters of play.

Maywood-Hayes Center woke up in the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to 48 to 36 with 4:47 left in the 4th quarter.

Ogallala tacked on more points than Maywood-Hayes Center and pretty much sealed the win with 2:27 left in the 4th quarter and a 53 to 38 lead.

Ogallala won by a final score of 54 to 42.

For Maywood-Hayes Center, Karissa Stengel scored nine points including making three free throws.

Blayklee Farr scored eight points, including making two threes.

Kesli Cox scored seven points including a three-point make.

Ava Messersmith made a two-point basket.

Sadie Flansburg also scored three points, including a free throw.

Maywood-Hayes Center's next game is today (Friday, February 14th) at Wauneta-Palisade.

The #1 ranked Wolves will then play against the winner of #4 Centura and #5 Shelby-Rising City at 5:00 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday, February 18th, in Maywood, Nebraska, in the Class C2-8 subdistrict.

Centura and Shelby-Rising City will play on Monday, February 17th at 4:30 p.m. Central Time in Maywood.

#3 Arcadia/Loup City will play against #6 South Loup (Arnold/Callaway) at 5:45 p.m. Central Time in Maywood on February 17th.

#2 Hastings St. Cecilia will play against the winner of Arcadia/Loup City and South Loup (Arnold/Callway) on February 18th at approximately 6:15 p.m. Central Time in Maywood.

The C2-8 championship game will be at 5:30 p.m. Central Time in Maywood on Thursday, February 20th.

Maywood-Hayes Center is now 20-4 on the season in Class C-2.

The Wolves were ranked 9th in Class C-2 recently according to nsaahome.org. That might be good enough to make a district final (the final 16 teams) if everybody who is ranked ahead of them wins their subdistrict tournament before the district final.

Ogallala's next game will be on Tuesday, February 18th in Bridgeport at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time in the Class C1-10 subdistrict tournament.

However, that will be in the second round of the subdistrict tournament as Ogallala will play the winner of #3 Chase County and #6 Mitchell.

If Ogallala were to win, they would play #1 Bridgeport, #5 Chadron or #4 Hershey or in the District Final in Bridgeport, Nebraska, at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time on Thursday, February 20th.

On day one of the Class C1-10 subdistrict tournament that Ogallala will be participating in, on Monday, February 17th, #4 Hershey will play #5 Chadron at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time while #3 Chase County will play #6 Mitchell at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time or at least 20 minutes after the 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time game is concluded in Bridgeport.

The winner of #5 Chadron and #4 Hershey will play #1 Bridgeport in Bridgeport on Tuesday, February 18th at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time.

Ogallala has beaten every team who they have played this season in their subdistrict at least once. Ogallala hasn't played Mitchell yet this season.

Ogallala lost to Bridgeport on December 31st 61-58 at Chadron for the Chadron Holiday Tournament and then they won 54-44 at Bridgeport on January 7th.

A win by Ogallala in the subdistrict semifinals might be (but probably isn't going to be) good enough to qualify for a district final.

Ogallala was ranked 14th in Class C-1 before Thursday's games according to nsaahome.org. Ogallala is now 15-8 on the season.

If Ogallala were to lose their next game, their season is probably over!

The Ogallala Indians defeated the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves in Girls' High School Junior Varsity basketball 38 to 19 on Thursday afternoon.
