Ogallala defeats Bridgeport in Boys' High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026

The Ogallala Indians High School Boys' Varsity basketball team defeated the Bridgeport Bulldogs by a final score of 72 to 42 on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, at the Prairie View Gymnasium on the Steve Morgan Court in Ogallala, Nebraska.


It was a rare game in which only about the top seven players for Ogallala got to play the entire game even though the won-lost result was clearly not in doubt by the early or middle stages of the fourth quarter.


This was easily Ogallala's hardest home game so far this regular season.


Bridgeport now has eight wins and three losses in the regular season.


They are now 0-1 in Class C1-12 subdistrict play because of their loss to Ogallala.


Bridgeport is currently listed in 10th place in Class C1 on the nsaahome.org website with a won-lost record of 8-3 and 44.1818 wild card points.


Ogallala is still undefeated and has eight wins and zero losses so far this regular season.


The Indians are now 1-0 in Class C1-12 subdistrict play because of their win against Bridgeport.


Ogallala is currently listed in Class C1 on the nsaahome.org website with 7 wins and 0 losses and with 47.2857 wild card points and in second place currently behind Ashland-Greenwood who is 10-0 and has 47.8000 wild card points.


Hayes Watts scored 18 points for the visitors from Bridgeport.


He scored five points in the first quarter and just two points in an extremely low-scoring second quarter for Bridgeport.


Watts scored 11 points in the third quarter, including three three-pointers and two free throw makes!


He made four three-pointers in Tuesday night's game with his first three-pointer happening in the first quarter.


For the fifth straight game, Sawyer Smith was the leading scorer for Ogallala, totaling 30 points.


He scored six points in the first quarter and four points in the second quarter.


Smith scored seven points in the third quarter and 13 points in the fourth quarter.


He made three free throws (all in the second half) and he made just one three-pointer, his last made shot of the night.


Bridgeport led 12-10 with 2:17 left to go in the first quarter.


The game was tied at 14 after one quarter!


Ogallala led 19-14 with 5:05 to go in the second quarter.


The Indians tacked on seven more points and led 26-14 with 2:18 left to go in the first half!


Bridgeport scored just four points in the second quarter with two coming from Hayes Watts and the other two coming on free throws from Colton Carrier.


Ogallala led 30-18 with 25.4 seconds to go in the second quarter and the Indians also led 32-18 at halftime!


Bridgeport and Ogallala each scored 10 points in the first half of the third quarter as the score was Ogallala 42 and Bridgeport 28 with 4:43 left to go in the third quarter.


Ogallala kept the pressure up while Bridgeport took their foot off the proverbial gas pedal as Ogallala led 53-33 after three quarters.


The Indians led 57-38 with 5:23 to go in the fourth quarter.


The Bulldogs then benefited as Ogallala's Cy Lowery committed goaltending on a Gage Nein two-point shot attempt.


The scoreboard still said 59-38 with 4:57 to go in the fourth quarter at that point, with the two points for Bridgeport to get to 40 points eventually updated on the scoreboard.


Ogallala led 63-40 with 3:32 to go in the fourth quarter.


Bridgeport's Hayes Watts then committed a personal foul and a technical foul on one defensive play with Ogallala trying to pass the ball on the offensive half and north half of the court!


Sawyer Smith made one of two technical foul free throws for Ogallala and the Indians led 64-40 with 2:53 to go in the fourth quarter.


Bridgeport trailed 70-41 with 35.6 seconds to go and Ogallala won the game 72-42.


For Bridgeport, Gage Nein scored 15 points. He made three free throws.


Nein scored seven points in the first quarter and four points in both the third and fourth quarters.


Cody Bates scored four points, with all of them in the fourth quarter. He made two free throws.


Logan Levick totaled three points. He made one free throw.


Colton Carrier made two free throws in the second quarter.


For Ogallala, Tanner DeCastro scored 13 points. He made three free throws.


DeCastro scored eight points in the first half, including two dunks and two free throws!


He has now scored 10 or more points in three straight games!


Edan Cain scored 11 points. He made one three-pointer.


Cain scored four points in the first half. He has now scored 10 or more points in two straight games!


Rylan Gilmore scored nine points. He made one three-pointer.


Rylan scored five points in the second quarter and in the first half!


Cy Lowery scored seven points. He made five free throws and totaled five points in the second quarter.


Lincoln Gillen scored two points.


Bridgeport plays versus Alliance on Friday, January 9th.


Then the Bulldogs travel to Kimball on Friday, January 16th, before hosting Mitchell in another important subdistrict game on Saturday, January 17th.


Ogallala travels to Cozad on Friday, January 9th.


The Indians then have back-to-back subdistrict games in which they host Sidney on Friday, January 16th, before traveling to Valentine on Saturday, January 17th.

Jose Castellanos scored 15 points for Bridgeport. He made three three-pointers!


He scored five first quarter points and totaled seven points in the first half!


Rhys Gilmore scored 28 points for Ogallala. Gilmore made 12 two-pointers and four free throws.


Gilmore scored 10 points in the first two quarters.


Ogallala led 9-0 right out of the game with 5:30 to go in the first quarter.


The Indians continued to lead 19-7 with 2:32 to go in the first quarter.


Ogallala led 24-12 after one quarter.


Bridgeport cut the deficit by one and trailed 30-19 with 3:30 to go in the first half!


The Bulldogs trailed 38 to 28 after two quarters at halftime!


Ogallala led by 20, 51-31 with 4:01 left to go in the third quarter.


The Indians then really expanded the lead to 32 after three quarters leading, 65-33.


Bridgeport trailed by 25 with 2:23 to go in the fourth quarter.


Ogallala won the game by a final score of 70 to 47.


For Bridgeport, Raul Aguilar scored nine points. He made one three-pointer and two free throws.


Raul Aguilar scored seven points in the first half and five in the second quarter.


Dixon Leisy and Braiden Jimenez each scored seven points. They each made one three-pointer.


Jimenez scored five first half points.


Ruben Dominguez made two threes and scored six points. He scored three points each in the first and second quarters.


Alejandro Aguilar scored two points.


Corbin Deines scored one point.


For Ogallala, Jacoby Bauer scored 16 points. He made four three-pointers.


Bauer scored 9 points in the second half which were all from three-point range!


Beckan Cain scored 11 points. He scored six points in the first half. He made one three-pointer.


Zach Musgrove made two three-pointers!


Anthony Perrin scored four points from two two-point baskets.


Wiley Krab made a three-pointer.


Ty Patin made a two-pointer.


Ogallala's next Junior Varsity game will be at Gothenburg on Friday, January 9th, 2026.


The Indians next home game for Boys' High School Reserve basketball will be on Monday, January 12th, 2026, against Gothenburg.


Ogallala's next Junior Varsity home game is scheduled for Friday, January 16th, 2026, against Sidney.


The Indians then travel to Valentine for a Junior Varsity away game on Saturday, January 17th, 2026.
