Ogallala Girls' defeat Omaha Gross Catholic in DC West Holiday Tournament Championship on December 31st, 2025

The Ogallala Indians Girls' High School Varsity basketball team defeated the Omaha Gross Catholic Cougars on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025, 68-47 at the Douglas County West High School basketball court in Valley, Nebraska.
Ogallala won the Douglas County West High School Holiday Tournament winning both of their games. They also defeated Beatrice 53-47 on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025.
The Indians are now 8-0 on the season.
Omaha Gross went 1-1 during the Holiday Tournament. They defeated Douglas County West 50-41 on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025.
Omaha Gross is now 6-2 on the season immediately after this game. They defeated Bishop Neumann at home 61 to 45 on January 3rd to improve to 7-2.
Omaha Gross's Lillian Riha scored 12 points. She scored six points in the first half. Riha made six two-pointers.
Ogallala's Aniston O'Neil scored a team-high and a season-high 32 points. She made four three-pointers.
O'Neil also made six free throws. She has scored 10 or more points in all but one game so far this season!
Lillian Riha scored the first four points for Omaha Gross Catholic on two two-point baskets.
Laney Caskey made the first six points for Ogallala on a two-pointer and then a free throw immediately afterwards twice to complete a three-point play!
Ogallala led 6-4 with 5:02 left in the first quarter.
Omaha Gross trailed 10-6 with 1:59 left to go in the first quarter.
The Cougars cut the deficit to three at 15-12 with 25.9 left in the first quarter.
Ogallala led 17-12 at the end of quarter one.
Aniston O'Neil scored seven points in the first quarter for Ogallala.
The Indians led 24-12 with 5:56 left to go in the first half!
Addison Slama made a three to start the second quarter and then Laney Caskey made three straight two-pointers and then Shaydyn Rasby made a two-pointer for Ogallala.
Omaha Gross still trailed Ogallala by twice as many points at 28-14 with 3:16 left in the second quarter.
Hayden Shaw then made a couple of threes for Ogallala and Ogallala led 34-14 after two quarters at halftime.
Lillian Riha scored two points in the second quarter for Omaha Gross Catholic.
For Omaha Gross Catholic, Riha scored two points and then Alyssa Cap scored five points in a row by making two free throws and then making a three-pointer!
For Ogallala, Shaydyn Rasby scored two and then Aniston O'Neil totaled five by making a free throw and two two-pointers.
The Indians kept the pressure on, but Omaha Gross kept trailing by 18 by a score of 41-23 with 4:45 left to go in the third quarter.
The Cougars trailed 49-32 with 1:11 left in the third quarter.
Lillian Riha scored four straight points, then Alyssa Cap hit a three and Mariah Dutcher made a couple of free throws for Omaha Gross Catholic to give the Cougars 32 points.
Shaydyn Rasby made a two, Aniston O'Neil hit a two and a three and then Rasby hit another two to give Ogallala 49 points.
Omaha Gross continued to cut the deficit, as they trailed by 14 after three quarters 52-38.
For Omaha Gross, Dutcher hit another three and then Mallory Loftus completed a three-point play by making a two and then hitting a free throw to get to 38 points.
Aniston O'Neil hit a two and made a free throw to get Ogallala to 52 points. She hade 13 points in the third quarter alone and totaled 20 points up to that point.
Ogallala then led 59 to 38 with 5:53 to go in the fourth quarter. O'Neil hit two threes and Shaydyn Rasby made a free throw between O'Neils two threes!
The Indians continued to expand their lead to 25 at 65-40 with 4:40 left in the fourth quarter. Laney Caskey made two free throws and O'Neil scored two straight two-pointers for Ogallala.
Omaha Gross then cut the deficit to 68-45 with 2:31 left in the fourth quarter because of Eva Wurgler making a two and Mallory Loftus hit a three!
Aniston O'Neil made a couple of free throws and Sadie Flansburg made a free throw for Ogallala to get to 68 points.
Aniston O'Neil scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and 25 points in the second half for Ogallala!
Omaha Gross hit a bucket by Eva Wurgler to make it 68-47 with 1:18 left in the fourth quarter and that was the final score and Ogallala won the game and the Douglas County West High School Holiday Tournament!
For Omaha Gross, Alyssa Cap scored ten points. She made two threes. Cap also made four free throws.
Mariah Dutcher scored seven points. She made one three and two free throws.
Mallory Loftus scored six points. She made one three-pointer and one free throw.
Kristen Frankman and Eva Wurgler each scored four points. They each made two two-point baskets.
Brooklyn Donaldson also scored four points and scored all of her points in the first quarter. She made two free throws.
For Ogallala, Laney Caskey scored 14 points. She made four free throws. Caskey scored 12 points in the first half!
Caskey has scored 10 or more points in four of her last five games! She has scored in every game so far this season!
Shaydyn Rasby scored ten points including two free throws made. She has scored 10 or more points in three of her last four games.
Rasby has also scored in every game so far this season!
Hayden Shaw made two threes and totaled six points. She has scored in every game so far this season and has scored at least six points in each of her last five games!
Addison Slama made a three-pointer. She has scored in every game so far this season!
Harper Smith scored two points.
Sadie Flansburg scored one point.
Omaha Gross plays at Crete on Tuesday, January 6th. Then they play at Ralston on January 9th before hosting Platteview on January 10th.
Ogallala is scheduled to host Bridgeport on Tuesday, January 6th. Ogallala then travels to Cozad on January 9th and will play Milford in the Nebraska Girls' Basketball Showcase on January 10th.
