Dodgers-Rockies on Sunday Night Baseball tonight

Julio Urias (0-0, 0.00 ERA in 1 start) of the Los Angeles Dodgers will face Chad Bettis (0-1, 9.53 ERA in 1 start) of the Colorado Rockies tonight on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball tonight.

The Dodgers are 7-2 while the Rockies are 3-6 on this young regular season.

Urias gave up 7 bases in his last start, a game in which the San Francisco Giants won 4-2 on April 1st. He went five innings, gave up just 3 hits, didn't give up any runs, had one hit batsmen, no walks and seven strikeouts.

Bettis gave up 30 bases in his last start, a game in which the Rockies fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 7-1. He went 5 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits, six earned runs, six runs, two home runs, no hit batsmen, two walks and five strikeouts.

I'm just going to go out on a limb and say the Dodgers are winning tonight. The Rockies starting pitching hasn't been great in this series or all season so far.

The Rockies definitely won't win tonight unless the starting pitching is good or maybe even great. Their defense has to stop the Dodgers when they can. And the offense has to start playing better and scoring more.

In Game 1 of this three game series on Friday night the Dodgers won 10-6.

In Game 2 last night the Dodgers won 7-2. Jon Gray took the loss for the Rockies and now has zero wins and two losses with a 5.68 ERA in 12 2/3 innings pitched.

By one method, I blame Gray 67% of the Rockies loss on Saturday. By a different method, he also deserves blame for 71% of the loss on Saturday.

The Rockies also wouldn't have won on Saturday night (or at least tied) even if their offense had been perfectly efficient.

The Dodgers advanced a total of 28 bases while Gray was in the game and scored 5 runs.

The Rockies advanced only 20 bases and still would have lost even if the Rockies had somehow scored 5 runs.

That's the only way it could have been a tie. If the Dodgers had not scored after Gray was taken out of the game.

The Rockies only advanced 10 bases and scored one run with Gray in the game.

Based on the number of bases advanced, this was Gray's worst outing of the regular season.

The Dodgers advanced a total of 40 bases on Saturday night.

Jon Gray's Innings Pitched Won-Lost Record is (0 Wins-1.5 Losses) in 2 starts.

The Rockies have a record of zero and two losses in his starts.

He is 100% the reason they have lost in his two starts on the pitching side. And he should own that. Will he?

Jon Gray needs to figure out how to win again. Last year, he got sent down to Triple-A to work on some things. The Rockies won't have much of a choice than to send him down again if he doesn't perform and/or they don't start winning.

The Rockies bullpen was solid except for Harrison Musgrave who gave up two keys runs in the ninth inning.

By one method, I blame Musgrave for 11% of the Rockies loss on Saturday. By another method, Musgrave also deserves 29% of the blame for the loss.

He now has an innings pitched won-lost record of (0.061 Wins-0.236 Losses) and a 6.75 ERA.

The Rockies have a record of one win and two losses when Musgrave pitches.

The Dodgers have a record of two wins and zero losses when Walker Buehler has started this season.

He now has a record of one win and zero losses with a 6.75 ERA in eight innings pitched this season.

David Dahl homered for the Rockies and Josh Fuentes made his major-league debut, got his first hit and scored a run.

For the Dodgers, Cody Bellinger doubled, tripled and scored two runs while Alex Verdugo tripled, homered and scored two runs.

Justin Turner scored two runs and Max Muncy scored once.

First pitch of Sunday night's game is set for 6:37 p.m. Mountain Time.
