The Los Angeles Dodgers offense was so good on Sunday night that they outperformed their offensive output from Friday afternoon.
The Dodgers advanced 65 bases and scored 12 runs.
On Friday, they advanced 54 bases and scored 10 runs.
The Dodgers actually maximized their scoring output (inning by inning) on Sunday, but could have scored an additional run on Friday.
They could have scored 16 runs on Sunday if their offense was perfectly efficient.
Meanwhile, the Colorado Rockies offense had almost as good of a night of scoring as on Friday.
They advanced 42 bases and scored 6 runs.
On Friday, they advanced 43 bases and scored 6 runs.
The Rockies could have scored another run on Sunday (inning by inning), but could have scored two additional runs on Friday.
The Rockies could have scored 10 runs on Sunday if their offense was perfectly efficient.
They advanced more bases in all three games vs. the Dodgers than in all three games at the Rays. The Rockies’ offense is getting better.
So Sunday was a very good night for both team’s offenses.
The Rockies tripled thrice and Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado and Raimel Tapia eventually scored after each hit a three-bagger.
On the pitching side of things, Chad Bettis has to take most of the blame for the loss on Sunday. Yency Almonte also has to take some of the blame.
Carlos Estevez and Bryan Shaw also have to take the blame, although it’s hard to really blame them because the game was over at that point.
Harrison Musgrave was the only Rockies pitcher who didn’t give up any runs.
The Atlanta Braves (5-4) will play the Rockies (3-7) tonight (Monday).
Julio Teheran (0-1, 3.60 ERA) is pitching tonight for the Braves. He gave up 18 bases at the Phillies on March 28th and 15 bases vs. the Cubs on April 3rd. Teheran has given up 4 runs in 10 innings pitched this season.
The Braves trailed 3-1 to the Phillies when Teheran was relieved on March 28th and never made a comeback. The Braves advanced 28 bases and the Phillies won 10-4.
On April 3rd, the Braves led the Cubs 2-1 when Teheran was removed from the game after five innings. The Cubs then took a 3-2 lead in the next half inning. The Braves then stormed back with four runs in the bottom of the eighth and shut the door on the Cubs in the ninth to win 6-4.
The Braves advanced 42 bases.
Yesterday (Sunday), the Braves advanced 27 bases and gave up 23 bases vs. the Marlins. They defeated the Marlins 4-3 on a Dansby Swanson walk-off single scoring Freddie Freeman.
Kyle Freeland (1-1, 2.31 ERA) is on the mound tonight for the Rockies. He gave up 11 bases at the Marlins on March 28th and 19 bases at the Rays on April 2nd. Freeland has given up 4 runs in 11 2/3 innings pitched this season.
The offense in Freeland’s first start was good. They led 6-1 over the Marlins when he was lifted for a reliever. The Rockies won 6-3 and advanced 34 bases.
The Rockies offense was atrocious in his last start. They advanced just four bases and scored zero runs. The Rays won 4-0.
I think it’s going to be a toss-up on who wins between the Braves and Rockies tonight. I think the Rockies have a chance to win tonight.
