Opinion: My Pre-Rest of the Rockies Regular Season Thoughts (and this isn't all of it)

The Colorado Rockies lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 on Tuesday night.

This Rockies team played in my opinion even more pathetic than on Monday night despite the fact that the offense scored three runs.

On Monday night, they only scored one.

In fact, this might have been the worst loss of the season (when the offense actually scored some runs).

They had four hits again (as on Monday night) and the game only lasted two hours and twenty-two minutes.

On Monday night, the game lasted only two hours and thirty-eight minutes.

So how short in real time is tonight’s game going to be? Less than two hours and twenty-two minutes?

We shall see.

But it’s important to note that the city of Denver is hosting the Avalanche and Nuggets in hockey and basketball respectively for important playoff games.

Please don’t tell me those are the reasons they haven’t tried the past two games?

I hope not.

But, look! I’m in support of the Rockies rooting on the Avalanche, Nuggets, Broncos (football) and Rapids (soccer) or any team rooting for your local teams.

But this is the regular season.

You are guaranteed these games.

You have to win these games.

You have to watch the Avalanche or Nuggets or whoever on tape delay.

You have to stop thinking about that crap. And to stop thinking (except about baseball, your job).

Period. End of discussion.

These are the kind of games that cost your team a playoff spot or a better playoff spot when October rolls around.

The Rockies likely lost the NL West last year because of stuff like this.

If the Rockies win the NL West last year, they probably could have gotten to the NLCS last year.

They likely would have beaten the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS.

And who knows? What could have happened then?

Maybe they face a tired Milwaukee Brewers or Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS instead?

They weren’t focused last night (and Monday) and worried about watching a game of a sports team in another sport.

Shameful!

Why? This Rockies team is in the middle of best era in the entire history of the Colorado Rockies. Period.

The Rockies have “never” made two straight playoff appearances.

Until they made it last year.

Oh, and let’s include the fact that you are playing the team right now who swept you in three straight games in the NLDS last year.

The Brewers.

Your arch-rival right now.

Don’t you want to beat this team?

Don’t you want revenge?

Don’t you want to win the World Series at the end of the season?

They do want to win the World Series but they don’t want to put in the effort right now.

Well, until this Rockies team gets some things fixed, winning the World Series isn’t going to happen.

The Rockies acquiring Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel would be a good start.

The rest of the Major Leagues is literally handing you the greatest gift you could ever ask for!

Why not take it?

Worry about the financial consequences later.

You can correct it after you win the World Series.

And if you don’t win the World Series?

Well, at least you tried. At least you went all in.

The fan base will respect you for that.

In fact, they might reward you by coming to more games.

And who doesn’t want more money in their pockets?

The Brewers are pummeling the Rockies right now.

What the Brewers are doing to the Rockies is like the Yankees beating up on the Red Sox pre-2004.

The Yankees win a lot of games. The Red Sox win “enough” games to call it a “rivalry.”

But the Red Sox never really got any respect until they won the 2004 ALCS.

The pre-2004 Yankees screwed up a lot by making a lot of mistakes and by losing games they should have won and at the end of the day they still seemingly got away with it.

The pre-2004 Yankees got away with it most against the Boston Red Sox.

So by Yankees fans it was “laugh in your face” at Red Sox fans because you’re team is so idiotic.

Yankees fans are effectively saying “Thanks Boston for literally handing us another win that we didn’t deserve because you are so stupid. Hah!”

The pre-2004 Yankees were like the team who was loved and adored by the media, fans and whoever else would embrace them.

The pre-2004 Yankees were probably getting somewhere between 70-85 % of the love (by let’s just say everybody).

The pre-2004 Red Sox were effectively, not getting any love except by people who had to be objective in their reporting and analysis.

The Red Sox were and still are lambasted by their own fan base today.

And in the end, the 2004 Red Sox were a better team than the 2004 Yankees.

They proved that during the 2004 regular season.

So how does last night’s game apply?

Rockies manager Bud Black made a stupid decision to leave German Marquez in the game in the seventh inning after Marquez was giving up more than a few hits.

Then Jesus Aguilar came to the plate. Aguilar homered twice on Monday.

I was thinking to myself, he needs to bring in a reliever to face Jesus Aguilar.

Did he?

No!

If Black doesn’t pull Marquez, Aguilar could hit a three-run homer right here.

Did Aguilar homer?

Yes!

And it costed the Rockies a win.

And that sort of managing may cost Bud Black his job in the future.

Just go ask John Farrell, former manager of the Boston Red Sox.

He tried to have “relief pitcher” Chris Sale start and finish the eighth inning in Game 4 of the 2017 ALDS after he already pitched four innings.

He tried to “bridge” an eighth inning gap where Sale would pitch the eighth and Craig Kimbrel would come in and slam the door shut in the ninth.

Because Farrell didn’t want to use any other reliever other than Craig Kimbrel, you know, until he absolutely had to.

It turned out to be a disaster for the Red Sox who were down two games to one in the series to the Astros.

Sale was lights out in in his first three innings of relief, the only mistake was allowing a man to reach on an error.

Then in the seventh inning, Sale allowed a couple of hits and got out of it.

No big deal. Right?

Wrong.

Farrell tried to have “relief pitcher” Chris Sale continue pitching in the eighth inning.

Then it backfired and the Astros' third basemen Alex Bregman homered.

Shortly after that, Farrell had to bring in a reliever.

Forget the best reliever.

But he brought in Craig Kimbrel anyway. Who came in the game in less than an ideal situation.

And it likely costed Farrell his job.

Not to mention the fact that the Rockies had every reason in the world not to show up on Tuesday night.

The Rockies were 5-1 in Marquez’s starts before last night.

Jhoulys Chacin, the Brewers starting pitcher, wasn’t having a great season before last night.

So the Rockies “thought” they were going to win.

The Rockies win last night if they just come ready to play on the offensive side outside of simply showing up to the ballpark.

And they didn’t.
