The Buckley Bombers defeated the Ogallala Adams Bank & Trust Senior Legion Baseball team 12 to 3 after three innings.
Buckley was 10-8 coming into the game while Ogallala was 2-9.
The two teams played each other for three innings at the Ogallala American Legion Field late Tuesday afternoon, June 24th, 2025, in Ogallala, Nebraska!
The plan before the game was to play a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Lightning and a downpour of rain stopped play as Ogallala almost took the field to play defense before the top of the 4th inning when the umpires stopped the game at 6:11 p.m. Mountain Time.
Whether Buckley will play another game against the Ogallala Senior Legion Baseball team at some point this season is still to be determined.
Most of the downpour and rain stopped after about 20 minutes, but at that point the coaches for both teams had already decided they didn't want their players to continue playing for the rest of the evening.
Buckley's Marcus Steinbar pitched great in three innings allowing just three runs and two hits.
He struck out eight of the last nine batter's he faced and walked just one batter.
Ogallala's Jackson Saner walked in the bottom of the first, Markell Macke hit a ground ball single and then Blake Robb hit a three-run home run just over the right field fence to give Ogallala a 3 to 2 lead at the time.
The next eight Ogallala batters struck out before Blake Robb popped out to the catcher in foul territory to end the bottom of the third inning.
For Buckley, they scored two runs in the top of the first inning.
Caysen Bamford singled and later scored on a Gage Waitmain single.
The bases were loaded with two outs and Ogallala then allowed Kaiden Schelling to score from third base after Marcus Steinbar struck out and then made it to first base safely as the Ogallala first baseman Markell Macke fell asleep on the play and was too close to home plate and the Ogallala catcher Jessie Ortega was maybe too far away from home plate to make a forceout play at home as he was retrieving the baseball on the uncaught third strike.
Fortunately for Ogallala, they only trailed 2-0 after the top of the first inning.
In the top of the second inning, Buckley's Caysen Bamford hit a two-run double driving in Mason Bornhoft and Ryland Wolff.
Kaiden Schelling drove in Caysen Bamford on a single and Caleb Deines helped Percy Odle score from third base as Deines hit into a bases loaded 4-6-3 double play.
Buckley led 6 to 3 at that point after an inning and a half.
In the top of the third, Caysen Bamford drove in Mason Bornhoft from second on a single. Ryland Wolff scored on a fielding error that Percy Odle hit to the Ogallala third baseman Blake Robb.
Caysen Bamford scored on a single by Gage Waitman and Percy Odle also scored on the play.
Marcus Steinbar drove in Gage Waitman and Kaiden Schelling.
Buckley led 12 to 3 and never really looked back.
Caysen Bamford and Gage Waitman had three hits and three RBI's each with Bamford hitting a double for one of his three hits and also scoring three runs.
Waitman scored just one run.
Marcus Steinbar had a hit and finished with two RBI's.
Kaiden Schelling had one hit, one run and one RBI.
Ryland Wolff had two hits total (including a bunt single in the second inning) and scored two runs.
Percy Odle and Mason Bornhoft each had one hit and scored two runs.
Caleb Deines scored one run.
Buckley finished with 12 runs, 12 hits and left six people on base.
Ogallala's pitcher Bradyn Heilman pitched three innings giving up 12 hits, 12 runs, 1 walk, three hit batter and five strikeouts (with four of them actually counting as outs).
Ogallala scored three runs, two hits, left zero people on base and committed four defensive errors.
Ogallala has a Junior Legion and a Senior Legion home game against Gering on Sunday, June 29th, 2025.
The Juniors will start at 11:00 a.m. Mountain Time while the Seniors will play after the Juniors at approximately 1:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
