EXCLUSIVE: Ogallala Varsity Boys' Basketball defeats Sidney to win C1-10 Subdistrict; Adams Central plays Ogallala today

The Ogallala Indians High School Boys' Varsity basketball team defeated the Sidney Red Raiders 81 to 49 on Thursday night, February 27th, 2025, at the Steve Morgan Court in the Prairie View Gymnasium in Ogallala, Nebraska.
The crowd in Ogallala was by far the loudest it has been all season and the Sidney band was there as well to support the Red Raiders.
It was a perfect night for the Ogallala Indians as not only did they play well on offense and defense, but Ogallala High School announced their inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame class.
Among those honorees are former Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball player Angie Oxley and longtime Ogallala High School head volleyball coach Steve Morgan just to name a few.
There will be an honorary ceremony in May I believe on May 17th.
For a chance to go to the State Tournament in a District Final, #9 Sidney (17-8) plays at the #8 Wayne Blue Devils on Monday, March 3rd, 2025, in Class C1 while #2 Ogallala (23-1) hosts the #15 Adam Central Patriots (16-9) in Class C1 on March 1st (today) at 1:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
Ogallala is actually tied with Lincoln Lutheran for the most wild card points in Class C1 this morning on Saturday, March 1st, 2025.
There is three other games today in Class C1. Three will be played on Monday, March 3rd, 2025, and one will be played the next day on March 4th.
Alek Doty led Sidney with 17 points. He made four free throws and three three-pointers.
Ogallala's Sawyer Smith had a season high 41 points! Smith scored three three-pointers and four free throws. He made fourteen two-point shots.
Ogallala led 22 to 13 after the first quarter.
Sidney kept it close but they still trailed 26 to 13 with 5:30 left in the 2nd quarter.
Ogallala then led 30 to 17 with 2:53 left in the 2nd quarter.
Sidney trailed Ogallala 38 to 24 at halftime.
Sawyer Smith scored 24 points in the first half for Ogallala.
Ogallala led 52 to 27 with 3:13 left in the 3rd quarter and at that point it was very apparent (if not sooner) that Ogallala was going to win on Thursday night.
Sidney trailed 57 to 29 with 2:31 left in the 3rd quarte.
The Indians led 62 to 38 after the third quarter.
Sawyer Smith had 31 points total at the end of the third quarter for the Indians.
The Red Raiders trailed 76 to 47 with 2:42 to go in the 4th quarter.
Ogallala won the game 81 to 49.
Sidney's Keian Kaiser scored 13 points. He mad two threes and a free throw.
Reid Fiscus scored 8 points including two threes.
Landon Riddle made two two-point baskets and totaled four points.
Kash Knobbe, Lance Holly and Kale Kaiser each scored a two-point basket.
Rhys Dorcey made a free throw and scored one point total.
For Ogallala, Rylan Gilmore scored exactly 15 points for the second straight game. He made three three-pointers. Gilmore also fouled out early in the fourth quarter and basically got unlucky with some of the foul calls against him on Thursday night.
Lincoln Gillen scored nine points including a three-pointer and two free throws.
Edan Cain scored seven points. He made three free throws.
Cy Lowery scored five points all in the 4th quarter including a three-pointer and two free throws.
Tanner DeCastro totaled four points by making two two-pointers.
Adams Central is 5-3 against the same teams Ogallala played this season while Ogallala is 8-1 against the same teams Adams Central played this season.
Adams Central has averaged 52.63 points against common opponents of Ogallala and allowed 49.75 for a point differential of +2.88.
Ogallala has averaged 73.4 points against common opponents of Adams Central and allowed 50.2 points for a point differential of +23.2.
For teams that are still remaining or alive in the Class C-1 playoffs, Adams Central is 2-4 against those teams this season while Ogallala is 7-1.
Adams Central averaged 48.83 points against those teams this season and allowed 57 points for a point differential of -8.17.
Ogallala averaged 67.63 points against those teams this season and allowed 52.88 points for a point differential of +14.75.
For teams that are still remaining or alive in the playoffs in all classes in the state of Nebraska, Adams Central is 4-7 against those teams this season while Ogallala is 10-1.
Adams Central averaged 50.09 points per game against those teams this season and allowed 54.36 points per game for a point differential of -4.27.
Ogallala averaged 69.82 points per game against those teams this season and allowed 53.64 points per game for a point differential of +16.18.
Adams Central was 2-3 this season against teams from other classes (other than Class C1) who are still alive or remaining in the playoffs while Ogallala went 3-0.
