The #1 seeded Ogallala Indians High School Boys' Varsity Basketball team defeated the #2 seeded Bridgeport Bulldogs by a final score of 85 to 44 in the Class C1-10 Subdistrict Tournament Championship Game on Thursday, February 26th, 2026, in the Prairie View Gymnasium on the Steve Morgan Court in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Both Bridgeport and Ogallala qualified for a District Final, and they will both play during the early afternoon hours tomorrow on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, which you can read about the details about the District Finals for all teams still alive in Class C1 in the state of Nebraska near the end of this story.

Like in recent years for the Boys' Subdistrict Championship Game in Ogallala, the gym was mostly packed in Ogallala on Thursday with the only empty seats being behind where the Ogallala High School Pep Band plays and a few pockets of empty seats scattered here and there throughout the entire gym as both teams fans were well represented on Thursday night.

Gage Nein was the top scorer for Bridgeport as he totaled 19 points. He made three three-point baskets and two free throws!

Sawyer Smith scored 25 points for Ogallala. He made two three-pointers and five free throws!

Smith scored 20 or more points for the seventh straight game!

To start the game, Ogallala's Edan Cain swished the first point of the game on a free throw and also made the next free throw.

Landon Dean made a two-pointer for Bridgeport.

Then, Tanner DeCastro hit a three for Ogallala from the left side I believe and also made a two-pointer.

Gage Nein then made a two-pointer for Bridgeport and Ogallala led 7 to 4.

Tanner DeCastro then scored two more two-pointers for Ogallala and Sawyer Smith made a two-pointer and a free throw immediately afterward for the Indians and Ogallala led Bridgeport 14 to 4 with 5:25 left to go in the first quarter.

Landon Dean then made a two-pointer and also a free throw immediately afterwards for the Bulldogs.

Sawyer Smith then made a two for Ogallala and the Indians led 16 to 7 with 3:35 remaining in quarter number one.

Lincoln Gillen then only made the first of two free throws for Ogallala.

Gage Nein then hit a two-pointer for Bridgeport.

Sawyer Smith made another two and Ogallala led 19 to 9 with 1:36 to go in the opening quarter.

Cy Lowery then made two free throws and "swished" the second free throw for Ogallala.

Landon Dean then made a two for Bridgeport and Sawyer Smith made a two-point shot for Ogallala and after one quarter the Ogallala Indians led 23 to 11.

To start the second quarter, Cy Lowery made a two for the Indians.

Then, Gage Nein scored two for Bridgeport.

Tanner DeCastro then hit a three-pointer for Ogallala.

Gage Nein also hit a three for Bridgeport and Ogallala led 28 to 16 with 6:13 remaining in quarter number two.

Landon Dean then made a two-pointer for Bridgeport and Sawyer Smith scored two for Ogallala.

After a couple of free throw misses by Bridgeport, Edan Cain then scored a triple for the Indians.

Rhys Gilmore then made an under-the-basket reverse layup from right to left for Ogallala and the Indians led 35 to 18 with 4:40 left in the second quarter.

Lincoln Gillen then drained a three for Ogallala and Bridgeport trailed 38 to 18 with 4:08 to go in the second period.

Sawyer Smith then made a two for Ogallala, Edan Cain made a two and Smith made another two and Ogallala scored 16 straight points

.

Logan Levick then made a two for Bridgeport and Ogallala led 44 to 20 with 2:48 remaining in the second quarter.

Sawyer Smith then made two free throws for the Indians and Tanner DeCastro hit his third three of the game for Ogallala!

Gage Nein then hit a three-pointer for Bridgeport and the Indians led 49 to 23.

Cy Lowery then made a dunk after a missed Ogallala shot and he also made two free throws for the Indians.

After Edan Cain for Ogallala intentionally threw the ball on the left side on the bottom part of the backboard, Tanner DeCastro grabbed the basketball on the rebound off the backboard and slammed the ball through the hoop for a dunk and Ogallala led 55 to 23 with 34.4 seconds left in the second quarter.

There was no more scoring for the rest of the quarter and Ogallala led 55 to 23 after two quarters.

Bridgeport scored 12 points in the second quarter while Ogallala scored 32 points in the second quarter.

The top scorers in the first half for Bridgeport were Gage Nein with 12 points and Landon Dean with nine points.

For Ogallala, the top scorers in the first half were Sawyer Smith and Tanner DeCastro each with 17 points. Cy Lowery scored eight points in the first half and Edan Cain had seven points in the first half.

To start the third quarter, Logan Levick made a two for Bridgeport.

Then, Tanner DeCastro scored two for the Indians.

Rylan Gilmore made a two for Ogallala and Sawyer Smith made two free throws and Ogallala led 61 to 25 with 5:24 remaining in the third quarter.

Edan Cain then "swished" a three-pointer for the Indians.

Landon Dean then ended Ogallala's 9-0 run, by making a two for the Bulldogs.

Tanner DeCastro then made a two for Ogallala.

Ogallala led 66 to 27, and one of the Ogallala players missed a couple of free throws.

If the Ogallala player would have made even just one of the free throws, I guess maybe (or maybe not) that would have immediately triggered the game clock to restart through the 40-point lead rule in which there is a running clock for the remainder of the game in which the game clock doesn't stop at all for free throws and the game clock only stops for timeouts, the end of a quarter and whenever the referees really want the game clock to be stopped at their discretion.

Tanner DeCastro then made another two-pointer for the Indians and Ogallala led 68 to 27 with 3:05 left in the third quarter, and the 40-point lead running clock for the remainder of the game started at that point.

Gage Nein then hit a three for the Bulldogs.

Sawyer Smith and Rylan Gilmore then each hit threes for the Indians.

Hayes Watts and Gage Nein each made two-pointers for the Bulldogs and after three quarters Ogallala led by 40, 74 to 34.

In the fourth quarter, Landon Dean made a two-pointer for the Bulldogs, but missed the free throw immediately after that.

Gage Nein then made a couple of free throws for Bridgeport and the Bulldogs trailed 74 to 38 at that point.

Cy Lowery then made a three-pointer and a two-pointer for Ogallala.

Sawyer Smith then briefly thought about adjusting his feet and made sure he was aiming at the basket properly before making a three from the left 45 degree angle for the Indians and Ogallala led 82 to 38 with 2:56 to go in the fourth quarter in which I believe Ogallala called timeout.

At that point, Ogallala pulled all of their starters from the game except for Edan Cain, one of the Ogallala senior basketball players, who was on the bench I believe before the timeout, to get Edan a few more seconds of game action for one of the final times in Ogallala in his High School Basketball career.

Hayes Watts then nailed a three for Bridgeport with 58.9 seconds to go in the fourth quarter.

Jose Castellanos made a two-pointer for Bridgeport and Ogallala led 82 to 43.

Zach Musgrove then made a three for Ogallala with 23.4 seconds remaining in the game.

Ruben Dominguez then made only the first of two free throws for Bridgeport and the final score was Ogallala 85 and Bridgeport 44.

Bridgeport fell to 22-5 on the season with two of those losses coming against Ogallala.

Ogallala won their 24th game in a row, and their 25th game in a row if you count their exhibition Hall of Fame game win at home over North Platte to start the season two days after Thanksgiving.

For Bridgeport, Landon Dean scored 13 points. He made six two-pointers and one free throw!

Hayes Watts scored five points. He made one three-pointer.

DeCastro has scored 20 or more points in two of his last five games.

Cy Lowery scored 13 points. He made one three-pointer, four free throws and at least one dunk!

Lowery has scored in three straight games! This was the first Varsity game he has scored 10 or more points in a game all season long!

Edan Cain scored ten points. He made two three-pointers and two free throws.

Edan has scored ten or more points in eight of his last ten Varsity games!

Rylan Gilmore scored five points. He made one three-point basket.

Rylan has scored at least five points in every single Varsity game this season except for one game and that was against Scottsbluff.

Lincoln Gillen scored four points. He made one three-pointer and one free throw.

Gillen has scored in back-to-back games. He has scored at least four points in every game this year in the actual year of 2026 that he has actually scored in, except for one game which was against Bridgeport.

Zach Musgrove made a three-pointer and totaled three points.

Rhys Gilmore scored two points off of an under-the-basket layup.

Rhys has scored in seven straight games. He has scored in all but three Varsity games this entire season.

The District Final are the top 16 teams in Class C1 in the entire state of Nebraska right now, with the ten Subdistrict Champions (the Subdistrict Tournaments being a "March Madness" or a "Conference Tournament" type of tournament) earning an automatic spot or berth in a District Final game.

The other six teams earned a wild card berth by winning the most games against the toughest teams throughout the entire regular season and postseason so far and also by scheduling the toughest teams to play against them throughout the season to automatically earn more wild card points even if they lost to that team.

Four District Final games will be played tomorrow on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, while four other games will be played on Monday, March 2nd, 2026, to determine which eight teams in Class C1 will be going to the State Tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska, from March 11th through March 14th.

Bridgeport, despite the loss against Ogallala, will be the home team and host Lincoln Christian at 1:00 p.m. Mountain Time on Saturday, February 28th, 2026 (tomorrow) in their District Final game with a chance to go to the State Tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Bridgeport is 22-5 this season with 44.8519 wild card points while Lincoln Christian is 17-8 with 43.5200 wild card points.

Bridgeport will be the #5 seed while Lincoln Christian will be the #12 seed.

Ogallala, with the win, will be the home team against Columbus Lakeview at 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time on Saturday, February 28th, 2026 (tomorrow), in their District Final game at Prairie View in Ogallala.

Ogallala has won 24 games and lost 0 games so far this season and they will be the #1 overall seed in Class C1 heading into the District Finals.

Columbus Lakeview is 14-12 this season and will be the #16 seed in Class C1.

The Columbus Lakeview Vikings are ranked 27th according to nsaahome.org heading into the District Final with 41.0000 wild card points.

The Vikings are the only team still remaining in Class C1 to not be in the top 16 for wild card points, but because they won the Class C1-6 Subdistrict Championship, they are here in a District Final.

Columbus Lakeview has only played two teams that Ogallala has played within the last year.

The Vikings lost to Douglas County West 58 to 41 on January 8th and they also played Adams Central on January 29th and also lost 50 to 49.

Ogallala played Douglas County West on December 31st and won 57 to 28 and the Indians also played Adams Central in the District Final in Ogallala on March 1st, 2025, last year (last season) and won 84 to 52.

Of the remaining teams in Class C1, Ashland-Greenwood and Cozad have lost all of their games only against Ogallala so far. Ashland-Greenwood has played Ogallala once and Cozad has played Ogallala twice this season.
