Ogallala Girls' hang on, defeat Gothenburg in High School Reserve Basketball on Monday, January 12th, 2026

The Ogallala Indians High School Girls' Reserve basketball team defeated the Gothenburg Swedes 45-44 on Monday evening at the Ogallala Auditorium in Ogallala, Nebraska, on January 12th, 2026.


Ogallala is 5-0 this season so far in High School Reserve games and the Indians have won four games at home.


Lilly Fritton scored 14 points for Gothenburg. She made two three-pointers.


Fritton scored five points in the first half.


Chloe Gager scored 17 for Ogallala. She made five three-pointers!


Gager had 11 points in the first quarter and 14 points in the first half!


Gager had a two-pointer to start the game.


Then, Gothenburg's Ruby Beveridge made a three to give the Swedes a 3-2 advantage!


Haidyn Rapp made a free throw and Kooper Knispel made a two-pointer to give Ogallala a 5-3 lead with 6:05 left in the first quarter.


Charlie Caskey then made a two and Ogallala had a 7-3 lead.


Aubrey Evert then made a three-pointer for Gothenburg and Ogallala led 7-6.


Chloe Gager then made a three for Ogallala to get the Indians to 10 points.


Lilly Fritton then made a two for Gothenburg to get the Swedes eight points.


Chole Gager then hit a two more threes to get Ogallala to 16 points.


Madilyn McNally made a two pointer to get Gothenburg to 10 points with 1:29 to go in the first quarter.


Aaliyah Houser then made two free throws for Gothenburg and Ogallala led 16-12 and that was the end of the first quarter.


Someone (I think it was Aaliyah Houser or Ruby Beveridge) made two free throws for Gothenburg to get the Swedes to 14 points.


Ruby Beveridge then made one free throw and Gothenburg trailed 16-15.


Lilly Fritton then made a two and Gothenburg had an 18-16 lead with 5:22 to go in the second quarter.


Sara Stevens then made a two for Ogallala and the game was tied at 18!


Riley Flesch then made a free throw and Gothenburg led 19-18.


Kooper Knispel then made a free throw for Ogallala to tie the score at 19 with 3:37 left in the second quarter.


Maci Hansen then made one free throw to give Gothenburg a 20-19 lead.


Chloe Gager then hit her fourth three of the half and Ogallala led 22-20.


Julia Flaming then made a right-handed layup and Kooper Knispel made a free throw and Ogallala led 25-20.


Sara Stevens then made another two and Ogallala led by seven, 27-20 with 40.1 left in the second quarter.


There was no more scoring in the second quarter and Gothenburg trailed Ogallala 27-20 after two quarters at halftime.


To start the second half, Ruby Beveridge hit two threes to cut the deficit to one for Gothenburg and Ogallala led 27-26.


Chloe Gager then hit another three for Ogallala and the Indians led by four 30-26.


Lilly Fritton then hit a three for Gothenburg and Ogallala led 30-29.


Haidyn Rapp then made a free throw and Ogallala led 31-29 with 4:34 to go in the third quarter.


Charlie Caskey then made a two for Ogallala while Maci Hansen made a two for Gothenburg and the score was Ogallala 33 and Gothenburg 31.


Sara Stevens then hit a three to give Ogallala a five-point lead entering the fourth quarter at 36-31.


Aaliyah Houser scored first for Gothenburg in the fourth and the Swedes trailed by three 36-33.


Charlie Caskey then scored again for the Indians and Ogallala led 38-33.


Houser then scored two again for Gothenburg and Lilly Fritton scored two and Ogallala still led 38-37 with 4:05 left to go in the fourth quarter.


Sara Stevens then made a two and Ogallala led 40-37.


Lilly Fritton made a two for Gothenburg and Ogallala led 40-39 with 2:10 to go in the fourth quarter.


The fans for both teams really started to make noise and pay attention to the action of every single play if they weren't already into the action of the game at this point!


Aaliyah Houser then made two free throws and Gothenburg led 41-40.


Haidyn Rapp then made a free throw for Ogallala and the game was tied at 41.


Kooper Knispel then made two free throws and Ogallala led 43-41.


Riley Flesch then made a free throw and Lilly Fritton made a two and Gothenburg led 44-43.


Charlie Caskey for Ogallala got fouled and went to the free throw line with about eight seconds left in the fourth quarter.


Caskey made both free throws and Ogallala led 45-44 with 7.7 seconds left in regulation.


Gothenburg then called timeout after trying to move the basketball.


After the timeout, the Swedes then got the basketball across half court, got the basketball on the right side near the basket inside the three-point line close to the out-of-bounds area on the west side, the Gothenburg basketball player bounced the ball closer to someone near the right post area, no one was there for Gothenburg to get the basketball, time expired and Ogallala held on and won by a final score of 45-44.


Gothenburg picked up their first loss of the season.


On the other hand, Ogallala failed to score 53 or more points for the first time this season in Reserve games.


The most points Ogallala gave up to the opponent in Reserve games before Monday was 29 on December 8th, 2025, against Perkins County.


For Gothenburg, Ruby Beveridge scored 10 points. He made three three-point baskets and one free throw.


Beveridge had just four points in the first half.


Aaliyah Houser scored eight points. She made four free throws.


Houser had just two points in the first half.


Beveridge or Houser had two additional points and my notes favor giving Beveridge those two points.


Aubrey Evert made a three-pointer.


Maci Hansen also scored three points. She made one free throw.


Madilyn McNally scored two points.


Riley Flesch also scored two points by making two free throws.


For Ogallala, Sara Stevens scored nine points. She made one three-pointer.


Stevens scored just four points in the first half.


Charlie Caskey scored eight points. She made two free throws.


Caskey scored just two points in the first half!


Kooper Knispel totaled six points. She made four free throws.


Knispel also had four points in the first half!


Haidyn Rapp scored three points by making three free throws.


Julia Flaming scored two points.


Gothenburg is at Hershey on Tuesday, January 13th, for High School Varsity Girls' basketball.


The Swedes then host Cozad on Thursday, January 15th, before traveling to Imperial on Friday, January 16th, to take on Chase County in Girls' High School Varsity basketball.


Gothenburg's next High School Reserve game is against Lexington on February 2nd.


Ogallala hosts Sidney in High School Junior Varsity and Varsity Girls' and Boys' Basketball on Friday, January 16th, 2026.


The Indians travel to Valentine on Saturday, January 17th, to take on the Badgers in High School Junior Varsity and Varsity Girls' and Boys' Basketball.


Ogallala hosts Sidney in High School Girls' Reserve basketball next Monday at the Ogallala Auditorium on Monday, January 19th, 2026.


The Indians then travel to Scottsbluff on Tuesday, January 20th, and they also travel to Alliance on Friday, January 23rd, for Girls' High School Varsity and Junior Varsity basketball.
